Parent Teacher Conferences
Frequently Asked Questions
When are Parent Teacher Conferences?
Parent Teacher Conferences for the first marking period will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013,
from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. and starting again at 6:00 until 8:30 p.m.
Are classes held that day?
Classes will meet Thursday morning following a “B” Schedule, so students are expected to be in school.
How are the conferences organized?
Parents should come at whatever time is most convenient for them. They should pick up a copy of their son’s progress report at the table in the lobby by the school’s main entrance. On the back of the progress report will be a listing that shows where the teachers are located. Parents are free to meet with any or all of their son’s teachers, although they do not have to if they only want to get the printed copy of the progress report.
Do I need to make appointments to meet with my son’s teachers?
No, no appointments are necessary. Parents meet with teachers on a first come, first served basis. When parents have decided which teachers to see, they should go to that teacher’s location. Most teachers will be in either the library or the cafeteria. If there is no one meeting with that teacher, then they can talk to him or her right away. If that teacher is meeting with another parent, they should find the student host for that teacher and sign up for a conference. There will be student hosts for every two or three teachers, so the host should be in that immediate vicinity. The host will keep track of which parents are next. If it looks as if there might be a long wait for a particular teacher, parents are free to visit with other teachers who might have shorter lines.
How long do I have for an individual conference?
We ask that conferences be limited to no more than 5 minutes so that other parents do not have to wait too long to see their son’s teachers. If a teacher has no one else waiting to see him or her, then the conference can certainly last longer. Otherwise, we ask that parents and teachers respect the 5 minute limit. If it’s necessary to have more time with a particular teacher, please make an appointment to speak to that teacher at some other time, or continue the conversation later via email or telephone.
What if I’m unable to come to Parent Teacher Conferences?
Your son will receive the paper copy of his progress report to bring home. You may contact his teachers via email or telephone if you have any questions about your son’s performance.
Are there Parent Teacher Conferences later in this school year?
Yes, Parent Teacher Conferences for the second semester are scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 p.m.
