CLUB/CLASS NOTES
• SUMMA CUM LAUDE HONOR STUDENTS: Invitations were mailed to those students who achieved Summa Cum Laude Honors (for either the second semester last year, or first semester this year) for the continental breakfast tomorrow morning beginning at 7:30 am. Students are asked to go directly to the cafeteria tomorrow morning with their families. A list of Summa Cum Laude students is posted by the cafeteria. Please note: The cafeteria will be closed tomorrow morning in order to prepare for the honors breakfast.
• DRIVER’S ED: Reminder … Driver’s Ed begins tomorrow from 7:00 – 7:45 am in Room 201.
• SENIOR PROM DEPOSITS: Seniors, if you plan on attending prom and have not made your prom deposit, please do so by this Thursday, February 11th. Any questions, please see Coach Beckman.
• JUNIOR CLASS COUNCIL: Attention Junior Class Council Members … There will be a Junior Class Council meeting tomorrow at 2:50 pm in Room 403. Attendance is expected. See you there. Questions? Please see Mr. Jarotkiewicz or Mrs. de Tagyos. Thank you.
• JV SCHOLASTIC BOWL TEAM: Congratulations to the Fantastic Fabulous Four Freshmen who beat St. Pat’s at the Metro North Scholastic Bowl Tournament last Saturday at St. Ignatius with a score of 70-30. Leading the Dons for the tournament was Ralph Joseph with 11 toss-up questions, and in his first appearance as Captain, was Nathan McGovern with 6 toss-up questions. Following closely behind were Patrick Adrian and Matt Burger with 5 toss-ups each. Give these boys a great round of applause as they complete their season with a job well done. As for all of you freshmen out there … consider joining the Scholastic Bowl Team next year if you know the answer to this question: “What team won Superbowl XLIV (44) in 2010?”
• FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE DANCE: There will be a semi-formal Frosh/Soph Dance on Saturday, March 13th. Save the date. The theme is an “Irish Beach Party”. Tickets will be sold beginning February 22nd during lunch periods. Tickets are $20.00 per couple. Please note, both you and your date will need your school ID to enter.
• LUMBERJACKS: It’s time to get back in the forest and smell the fragrant aroma of men at work. The Jacks will be cuttin’ a few at home this SATURDAY as they take on the local buckthorn in Linne Woods on Dempster. If your New Year’s resolution included more service, then some hard core lumberjacking is the place to start. The LUMBERBUS will leave Notre Dame at 8:45 am for three hours of “CUT and BURN”. See Mr. Bachta in Room 204 to sign up and receive a permission slip.
• HUNGRY I: The time is getting close. Close. Close!!! Just a few short days before auditions for HUNGRY I, Notre Dame’s yearly Mardi Gras talent show. Do not miss your chance to be a part of this event! Auditions for emcees, comedy magic, poetry, dance, and other various acts will be held after school Wednesday. All music acts will audition after school Thursday. Please sign up on the Little Theater door … space is limited. Please see Mr. Beattie, Mr. Wallace or Ms. Targosz with any questions.
• DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT: The Junior Class Council is sponsoring a Dodgeball Tournament scheduled for Saturday, February 27th at 2:00 pm. Spots are limited, so sign your team up as soon as possible. Information and applications are available at the front desk. Questions? Contact Mrs. de Tagyos.
• SPEECH TEAM: Congratulations to the Speech Team for competing last weekend at the IHSA Regional Speech Tournament at Maine West. Special congratulations to … this is huge … junior Rodrigo Arcibar for turning up the heat and earning 2nd Place out of a very competitive field in the event of Poetry. Rodrigo solidly earned his place as one of the top speakers in the region, and has advanced to the sectional tournament. Congratulations also to Nathan Lane for coming up just one point away from advancing to sections in Oratorical Declamation. Congratulations on another successful weekend, and good luck to Rodrigo as he prepares for next weekend’s sectional tournament.
• JUGGLERS: Attention all Notre Dame Students … Picture this … A humble barn filled with golden straw. A giant, glow-in-the-dark spider web. A very special pig learning the meaning of friendship. Cows. Lots of Cows. This spring … the Jugglers present … Charlotte’s Web. Auditions will be held at the end of this month. See Mr. Beattie with any questions.
• DON’CAPPELLA: Attention all Members of Don’Cappella … A reminder that our typical Sunday rehearsal was rescheduled for TONIGHT. Do not miss!
• ITALIAN CLUB: The Italian Club will be hosting a dinner outing in conjunction with the ladies of Resurrection High School on Friday, February 26th. Stop by Room 213 to sign up.
• FROM THE LIBRARY: Faculty, Staff and Students … “How do I love thee? Let me count the books.” Celebrate St. Valentine’s Day in the library this week. Stop by and tell us the name of a book you loved reading and receive your valentine.

• TUITION DEPOSITS: Tuition deposits in the amount of $200.00 are now due for current students. Deposits may be mailed or dropped off at the front desk.

• KAIROS: Attention Seniors … Applications for the last Kairos, which will take place March 15 – 18th, are now available in the Campus Ministry Office. Spots will fill up very quickly, so pick up an application soon if you would like to attend. Please see Mr. Balentine with any questions.
• CONFIRMATION: Have you been confirmed in the Catholic Church? If you haven’t, now is your chance! The Archdiocese of Chicago will be holding Confirmation classes for high school students at St. John Brebeuf Parish beginning in March. Please see Mr. Balentine for more details.

• Attention Seniors … The deadline for signing up for the Oakton Community College field trip has been extended until 3:00 pm tomorrow. This program gives undecided high school seniors a special opportunity to visit the Oakton-Des Plaines Campus for a college information program on Friday, February 19th from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm. Please see Mr. Kuffel either today or tomorrow if you are interested.
FROM THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
• FOOTBALL: There will be a football meeting today for any freshmen interested in playing football next fall. This football meeting for freshmen will be in the cafeteria immediately after school today at 2:20 pm. All you need to do is stop by for five minutes to get the football information. Any questions about today’s football meeting for freshmen, see Coach Hennessey.
• WRESTLING: There will be a mandatory wrestling meeting for all wrestlers in the Wrestling Room immediately after school.
Also, ND Wrestlers Jim Wallenberg and Matt Sommers, both 1st Place Medalists, Brian Ridge and Sean Heneghan, both 2nd Place Honors and Tim Donnelly and Matt McNulty, both 3rd Place Finishers will advance to the IHSA Sectionals this coming weekend. ND finished in 2nd Place overall in the team competition. Congrats to our wrestlers!
• SWIMMING: ND Swimmers go to St. Pat’s today for a match. Congrats to our Varsity Swim Team on their performance at the Conference Swim Meet on Saturday.
• BASKETBALL: Big sweep this weekend for ND Basketball as they easily defeated Marian Catholic on all three levels. The Varsity won 69-21, the Sophomores defeated the Spartans 68-56, and the Frosh won at home 75-62. St. Pat’s this weekend … Sophomores and varsity away and freshmen at home. Congrats and good luck to the Hoopsters.
